Mobility with wheelchair and baby buggy

Reach your destination with the VAG

Some of our passengers have limited mobility or need to transport a baby buggy. It is therefore important to us to design our public transport so it is easily accessible for everybody.

Underground

The edges of station platforms have a noticeably different surface structure in order to make navigation easier for visually impaired or blind people. Moreover, visual and acoustic signals in the trains will help you get on or off safely.

We recommend wheelchair users enter the train close to the driver's cabin when using underground trains of the line U1 – so the driver can see when you need assistance. In driverless underground trains, you will find automatic wheelchair ramps in all coaches.

Elevators in underground stations
All underground stations in Nuremberg and Fürth have at least one transparent elevator that carries you from outside the station directly to the platform.

Underground stations with disability-access toilets
If you need toilets that are suitable for wheelchair users, you can find these in the underground stations "Messe", "Hauptbahnhof", "Lorenzkirche", "Weißer Turm", "Plärrer", "Röthenbach", "Rathenauplatz", "Nordostbahnhof", "Herrnhütte", "Friedrich-Ebert-Platz", "Fürth Jakobinenstraße" and "Fürth "Klinikum".

Trams

All tram lines in Nuremberg are serviced exclusively by low-floor vehicles. In addition to that, run-out wheelchair ramps will make it easier to get on or off – please ask the driver to activate the ramp.

Close to the doors you will find marked areas that offer enough space for wheelchairs or baby buggies. There, you will also find detailed information on the exact heights between entrance and street as well as the door positions at individual stations.

Buses

Our buses are low-floor vehicles, too. They can “kneel down” on one side and are equipped with wheelchair ramps in order to make getting on or off a simple task. Please inform the driver to take the necessary measures.

Parents with baby buggies are requested to get on through the back door of the bus. It is usually marked with a buggy sign. There, you will find enough room for your buggy and a special seat for yourself.

Mobility with the baby buggy

Of course, there is no extra charge to take along your baby buggy. If you need them, you will find baby care facilities at the underground stations “Lorenzkirche”, “Plärrer”, and “Röthenbach”.

Tactile city map of the underground and tramway network

For the blind and visually impaired, we have a tactile map of the Greater Nuremberg area at the VAG Service Center (which is located in the “Königstorpassage” at Central Station). The map also includes information on the underground and tram network.
