Measures due to the heat

Temperatures above 30 degrees are forecast again for the coming days. To prevent damage to vehicles and tracks, we are implementing various measures and reserve the right to suspend tram service in extreme cases.

During the last heat wave, the material between the tracks and the road softened and spread throughout the entire network. As a result, vehicles and tracks had to undergo extensive cleaning. Since then, we have been closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that the material does not melt again by deploying our grinding car and providing additional watering of the tracks.


Should temperatures continue to rise, we cannot rule out the possibility that we may have to suspend tram service. In that case, we would again set up a replacement bus service. However, we will provide separate updates should it come to that. The buses will then operate on the following routes. You can also see these on our map.

  • Am Wegfeld – Friedrich-Ebert-Platz
  • Gibitzenhof – Plärrer (continues as E6 to Westfriedhof)

Line 5

  • Frankenstraße – Finkenbrunn →  Bus lines 51 und 67
  • Frankenstraße – Saarbrückener Straße → Bus lines 51
  • Saarbrückener Straße – Worzeldorfer Straße → Bus lines 68
  • From Hauptbahnhof use E11 to Tiergarten.

Linie 6

  • Westfriedhof – Plärrer (continues as E4 to Gibitzenhof)
  • Plärrer – Schweiggerstraße use E10

  • Hauptbahnhof – Dutzendteich – Doku-Zentrum

  • From Plärrer to Am Wegfeld please use line E4.

  • From Plärrer use E4 to Gibitzenhof

The buses are also be affected by the heat and have to use alternative stops in some cases. The following stops are affected:

  • Friedrich-Ebert-Platz: Replacement outbound → Bus stop at the start of Kirchenweg
  • Obere Turnstraße: Replacement stop towards the city center and outbound → on the side of the road
  • Rathenauplatz: Replacement stop towards the city center and outbound → Bus stop Laufer Tor
  • Mögeldorf: Replacement stop towards the city center → until Sunday: on the side of the road; from Sunday: Schmausenbuckstraße (at Sparkasse)
