The VAG transport-corporation Nuremberg is a 100% subsidiary of Städtische Werke Nürnberg GmbH (Municipal Services Nuremberg Ltd.) and thus of the city of Nuremberg. The company itself is structured by equity stakes, for example like the 100% subsidiary Bus Nürnberg GmbH, Stadtbus Fürth GmbH, Stadtbus Erlangen GmbH and BSN Betriebsgesellschaft Schienenverkehr Nürnberg mbH. The VAG-company stands for safety, reliability, innovation and customer-friendly-service in the public transit systems of Greater Nuremberg (and surrounding regions), as well as the neighboring cities Fürth and Erlangen.
Busses, trains, workshops and much more - that`s us

We drive twice around the world each day running a wide network of lines with almost 400 of our own buses, trams and subways. Around 1.800 employees in driver`s seats, customer service centers, maintenance facilities and administration see to that Nuremberg keeps on moving.
VAG as an enterprise also moves ahead: Since 1984, jointly with partners from the industry, we have been testing bus-drive-systems on a regular basis, for example utilizing natural gas or fuel cell technology. Thus we constantly try to develop more economical, comfortable and environment-friendly busses - not only for Nuremberg.
In July 2003 our new ecologically designed and modernly managed tramway storage-and-maintenance-facility in "Heinrich-Alfes-Straße" went into operation. Within the Verband deutscher Verkehrsbetriebe (VDV; association of German transportation companies) it is considered an exemplary facility. On its premises Germany`s up to then largest roof-integrated photovoltaic plant can be found. In 2008 Germany`s first fully automated subway will be under way in Nuremberg. The venture to put this plan into operation is called RUBIN. It`s an ambitious project which draws the attention of both the national and international public transport industry: Because we are the first public transportation service worldwide to automatize an up to then driver-operated subway-line "under rolling wheel", with ongoing traffic.
Besides technically operating and continually optimizing public transport in Greater Nuremberg, we are also flying community dedication in our colours. To be able to adapt our transport efficiency to the needs of the people of Nuremberg we not only ask citizens for advice within the framework of our customer-advisary-council. We also even cater for the youngest. This concept starts in kindergarden, goes on to traffic education for first-graders by the puppet theatre of the police and has been broadened with the Coolrider-project since 2002. The goal of all our projects is to move busses and trains into the centre of attention as an alternative to car-traffic, to show what to pay attention to when using public transport and, last not least, to use it in a way so as not to impair other passengers. Because we want all our passengers to arrive safely.
